POLICE and fire services were called to a property on Market Street in Tavistock yesterday after a gas leak was reported by one occupant of a neighbouring property.
An eyewitness has confirmed that one police car and one fire engine were in attendance at approximately 9.30am.
Upon arrival, both parties entered the first floor flat of the property in question and then escorted a male occupant who was uninjured from the flat. The emergency services then located the source of the leak using gas detection monitor equipment and proceeded to isolate both gas and electricity supplies.
Fire Control contacted the gas board to attend and an engineer was soon dispatched to the scene where, upon their arrival, duty of care was automatically transferred as they continued to conduct checks and proceeded to isolate the supply further.
The incident remains ongoing according to the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service’s Incident Report of today.
