A RELAXING session of Tai Chi was part of Tuesday's activities for Year 2 and Year 3 children from Okehampton Primary School as part of their 'One World Week'.
The sessions were led by Nick Taylor and Helen Beare from the Devon Tai Chi Centre, who taught the children about the Chen style Tai Chi.
The sessions began with a short discussion about Tai Chi, followed by the traditional Tai Chi salute, a sign of respect. This was followed by soothing Tai Chi exercises with oriental music.
The children were then given a demonstration of the faster Tai Chi movements, and a sword demonstration from Nick.
Finally the children learned about meditation before a question and answer session and a final Tai Chi salute.
The sessions were part of a week-long programme to teach pupils about other countries and cultures, which also included an African drumming workshop for Early Years and Year 1 children.
Speaking about One World Week, Lucy Gostling, a Year 5 pupil at the school said: 'One World Week has inspired me to think more about other countries in the world, and what life there might be like.'
Victoria Issac, also from Year 5, said: 'I have enjoyed learning about different countries and cultural experiences.'
