CHAGSTOCK organisers have announced that more than 600 free under 12s tickets have been allocated for the festival, taking place this weekend.

The scheme, which allows all adult and family ticket holders to book free tickets for under 12s at the same time as their own, has been a big success.

Si Ford, organiser of Chagstock, said: 'In these tough economic times we wanted to do everything we could to make attending Chagstock as affordable as possible.

'This year we reduced our adult, youth and family tickets to 2010 prices, and allowed all under 12s to attend for free.

'We believe that Chagstock is one of the best family-friendly festivals anywhere in the country, so we are happy to have a policy in place that encourages and assists them to attend.'

Chagstock has also confirmed that all-weather contingency plans have been implemented, in order to minimise any risk that the unseasonal weather might prevent the event from taking place.

As the festival is located at the top of a hill with natural and man-made drainage, the site at Whiddon Down avoids many of the weather-related problems that have affected a number of events this year.

However, a number of other policies, such as large amounts of trackway for vehicles and enlarged covered areas within the festival site have been put in place.

Si Ford said: 'We are confident that Chagstock will take place next weekend come rain or shine.

'Whilst you can never give a 100% guarantee when it comes to the weather, we are fully equipped and prepared to welcome all attendees to the event.

'As always, I would advise festival-goers to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for a weekend of all weather conditions.'

Chagstock returns to its traditional two-day format in 2012 — July 20 and 21 — and organisers are making a number of changes in the festival's sixth year.

These include a major new zone called 'The Village Green', a revamped and enlarged children's area, and a renewed emphasis on ensuring that wherever possible, the artists, food, traders and brewery all have strong links to the South West.

Fun Lovin' Criminals headline the main stage on Saturday, supported by Dartmoor's Seth Lakeman. K T Tunstall will headline on Friday, with further performances from Alabama 3, Juan Zelada, Ruarri Joseph and Mad Dog Mcrea.

The festival is organised on a not for profit basis and any excess cash will be donated to causes such as Devon?Air Ambulance and WaterAid.
