A WEST Devon youngster will be undertaking a 50-mile bike ride next week, to raise money for a charity close to his heart. Ten-year-old Ben Lovejoy will be riding along the back roads of Devon on July 19 from his home at Halwill Junction through Lewtrenchard, Lewdown, over Roadford to Ashwater, then to Clawton and along the back roads to Holsworthy, North Tamerton, on to Clawton and back through Halwill Town to Halwill Junction. Ben will be raising money for Crohn's and Colitis UK, on behalf of his grandmother Beat Boundy, who suffers with Crohn's disease and his uncle Ian Boundy, who has ulcerative colitis. Ben's mother, Rachel Lovejoy, said: 'Anyone who has driven these roads will know that the route has more than its fair share of challenging hills. 'He is aiming to finish in the park at the village gala day, where there will be a large number of stalls and activities going on throughout the afternoon. 'This will be the biggest ride Ben has ever done and he is looking forward to the challenge. 'He has already raised over £750 and is very grateful to everyone for their support.'
