A HEARTY meal to kick off the day was enjoyed by all who attended the Charter Hall last Saturday, as the Royal British Legion held their Big Breakfast.
The event was held to mark the 90th anniversary of the RBL and to raise money for the poppy appeal.
The food was cooked by two Gurkha chefs, Bhuwani Rai and Raju Thapa from 10 Queens Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, who travelled down to Okehampton especially for the event.
All produce was kindly donated by local shops and businesses.
Members of the 2443 Okehampton Air Cadets Squadron helped to serve over 200 breakfasts sold on the day.
Peter Williams, branch secretary for Okehampton Royal British Legion was astonished with the morning's success: 'It was an absolute surprise at how well we did, to say the least.
'We raised at least £1,500 on the day, which was the largest amount raised for the anniversary of the Legion by any branch in Devon.
'There was no pause throughout the morning as people kept coming in.
'The cadets who helped out throughout the breakfast were absolutely brilliant.
'The number of compliments we received from people who were so impressed with their manners and organisation was fantastic.'
