A DETERMINED eleven-year-old from Halwill Junction has been recognised for his valiant fundraising efforts — by Blue Peter. Ben Lovejoy raised £1,700 by riding 50 miles on the back roads of Devon in July from his home to Lewtrenchard, Lewdown, over Roadford to Ashwater, then to Clawton and along the back roads to Holsworthy, North Tamerton, back to Clawton and back through Halwill Town to Halwill Junction. The challenge took him just over six and a half hours to complete, and he rode triumphantly into the village gala day upon his return. Ben took on the challenge to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis UK on behalf of his grandmother Beat Boundy, who suffers with Crohn's disease, and his uncle Ian Boundy, who has ulcerative colitis. His fundraising efforts have been recognised by the BBC programme Blue Peter, who awarded Ben with a Blue Peter badge for his hard work. To make it even more special, the badge arrived on Ben's eleventh birthday.
