BOW Recreation Group is celebrating after sowing the grass seeds for a brand new football pitch on Burston Lane.
The group formed a new committee consisting of members of the local community in October 2014 and with the help of local businesses and community members from Bow and Zeal Monachorum they have set about developing recreational facilities.
Phase one of the project is to develop a new football pitch with changing rooms and a car park. The group hoped to have this completed by summer 2017.
Chairman of the group Paul Edworthy said: ‘We would like to thank all of the organisations and people who have helped support the group and those who have attended our events and have made donations.
‘We have achieved a great deal in the last two years with minimal funding but a great deal of local man power. It is amazing what you can achieve with a bit of community spirit.’
Bow Recreation Group has planned to get the project completed by July 2017 so that local team Bow AAC can begin playing on the pitch in September for the beginning of the 2017-18 football season. Bow AAC are currently in the Devon and Exeter Premier League.
The group also hoped the facilities will also be used by the youth football and other organisations.
Chairman Paul Edworthy added: ‘Our mission is to develop a fitter and healthier community and we would like to welcome any local organisations to come forward so that they can accommodate their activities to expand the group’s offerings.’
Bow Recreation Group met with Central Devon MP Mel Stride in North Tawton back in November 2014, where he offered his full support to the project and offered to support the project any way he could.
Mr Stride recently commented: ‘It is great to see that the development of the recreational ground is progressing well. Paul and his team have done a fantastic job and their efforts will give residents here in Bow a wonderful community asset for sports and other events for decades to come.’
