OKEHAMPTON Golf Club has had a busy week starting on September 20 when they held their veterans' autumn three ball open. More than 140 competitors took part and overall winners were John Cross, Ron Lee and Trevor Smith from Downes Crediton Golf Club.
The next day in beautiful sunny conditions 116 competitors took part in the Society Organisers and Sponsors golf tournament. A great day was had by all and this was won by Dave Green and Steve Gresham representing the GWRSA Golf Society.
On Saturday a large field took part in an individual stableford, again in lovely sunny conditions. The winner of division one with 40 points was Gareth Holt, Michael Hern came second after count back, and Will Searle came third with 38 points. Division two was won by Steve Blandford with 39, in second place was Mike Allen with 38, Alan Searle came third with 38 points. Winner of division three with 39 points was Dave Lawson, Derek Wildash came second with 38 and Nicholas Hobbs was third with 37.
Last Wednesday the OGC ladies played a qualifying Stableford for the President's Salver. The silver division was won by Pam Jarman with 33 points, second was Jane Warren with 29 on countback from Cherry James. The Salver however went to the bronze division with Doris Jewell winning it with 34 from Maureen Howe with 30. The overall winner was Sylvie Gowers who had a superb round scoring 39 points and having a handicap cut taking her from 31 to 28.
The two qualifying teams, Cherry James and Doris Jewell and Maureen Willcocks and Tricia Nilsson went to Exeter Golf and Country Club on Friday for the County Express and Echo foursomes finals; both teams had good games with Doris and Cherry coming fifth with 32pts.
