DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is urgently seeking to recruit firefighters who will be available for calls during the daytime in North Tawton.
In the event of additional firefighters not being found, there may be occasions in the future when appliances from other stations have to attend incidents in the town.
Watch manager Dave Cogger said: 'On-call firefighters usually have other jobs or are homemakers but wear an alerter and come to the fire station when there is an emergency.
'Most importantly, they will be helping their own community, but on-call firefighters also get paid and have access to training that most people do not have.'
The service welcomes applicants from all parts of the community. They must be at least 18, physically fit and live or work within five minutes of North Tawton Fire Station.
This is the second of two recent appeals for retained firefighters in the area, with Okehampton Fire Station making a similar one back in May.
They need to be available Monday to Friday and in particular during the daytime. Successful applicants will have a chance to attend first aid and LGV driving courses.
Anyone who is interested can attend a recruitment evening on Monday, July 23 at North Tawton Fire Station on Barton Road. The station will be open from 7pm to 9pm.
