A PREMIER League footballer has made three Spreyton kids’ day by sending them a personal video of congratulations.
Chelsea FC centre back Antonio Rudriger said he and his teammates were ‘very proud’ of Rose, Gryffin and Bryn Gordon Clark, after they completed a 143-mile ‘run for granny’ in aid of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The siblings aged 12, 10 and four are pictured left crossing the finishing line, having spent the past seven weeks notching up the miles in the field beside their house. They have raised nearly £2,500 towards the development of a Covid-19 vaccine at the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford, running the distance separating them from their granny in Hampshire.
Mum Laura got in touch with Chelsea FC to tell them about the trio’s efforts but the video recording from Rudriger, sent last Thursday, came as a huge surprise.
‘It was just a wonderful end for the run,’ said Laura. ‘You couldn’t make kids any happier than to have one of their sporting heroes supporting them in this way. They are just over the moon that someone who has star status has taken the time out to send them a message to say well done!’
The children are now preparing to send a message back to the footballer. See www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/runtogranny
