Okehampton
Columbines 8
Kingsbridge and Salcombe ladies 2
THE home game for the Columbines was a reorganised fixture due to pitch conditions before Christmas.
Okehampton snapped into action with Jo Moppett, who started the game with a push to Alex Collins; she fed it back to her as Jo ran on; Jo passed swiftly to Lesley Bingham who cracked it back to Jo Moppett who scored before most players had moved their feet; less than a minute to the first goal.
This set a pattern for the game. Snappy passes, strong back up play from the halves for the forward to probe fast and deep into the Kingsbridge half.
Alex Collins continued with her goalmaker role for Columbines which earned her player of the match; this hard work and stylish play was also seen in Sarah Toms, Kim Davey and Jo Drake on the half line. Oke demonstrated fast stick work, good positioning and team work to leave Kingsbridge struggling and Jo Moppett scoring a hat-trick. Her searing cross from the far left back line was pounced upon by Jo Drake who popped it past the goal keeper to put Okehampton 4-1 up for half time.
Kingsbridge came back after the break but their efforts were consistently thwarted by the marking and blocking of the stalwart defence; Netty Collette, Jane Jones and Carol Taylor.
The play was mainly on Okehampton's left and Viv Weatherington's cool control made good use of the passes which came through and she too fed the ever vigilant Lesley Bingham and Jo Moppett. Together they created Jo Moppett's fourth goal and then Lesley Bingham's first and Okehampton's sixth.
Kingsbridge continued to play a spirited and determined game with several dangerous attacks with Sophie Whiteley making some good saves.
The visitors did reply when the ball was stopped on the Oke line by a defenders foot leading a penalty flick, which was dispatched for Kingsbridge first goal.
Okehampton were soon back in dominance and finished off the game with goals from Lesley Bingham and Kim Davey. The club thank all those who turned up to watch.
