RE plans for the recreational field at Crapstone (May 12 edition) as I recall, Wimpy, who built the estate on MOD land were, as part of the deal supposed to have cleaned up the pitch and provided drainage to enable it to be used by the rugby team.

The rugby team gave up because it was too dangerous to use. I recall the team spending days going over the land picking up rocks before they could attempt to use it. They probably only used it two or three times before giving up. The parish should have insisted Wimpy upheld their side of the bargain, but didn’t.
