THE garden at Andrew's Corner in Belstone will be open to the public this weekend as part of the Open Gardens 2013 programme for the Mary Budding Trust.

The garden in Skaigh Lane, will be open on Sunday April 21 from 2.30pm to 5.30pm with cream teas, plants for sale and a family garden quiz.

There will also be the opportunity to find out more about the vital support the Mary Budding Trust provides for local primary school children with special needs.

The charity provides grants and equipment to support children aged eleven or under living in the West Devon Borough Council district.

As the district medical officer of health for Tavistock and district, the late Dr Mary Budding came into contact with numerous families who had children with severe difficulties.

Recognising there was little structured support to help them, she generously left a legacy that was the catalyst for the formation of the charity set up in 2002.

In making their decisions, the charity's trustees aim to enable the children to have a full and rich life, providing opportunities which might not be available without extra financial support.

Over the last decade The Mary Budding Trust has given support to children and families right across the area including Northlew, Bridestowe, North and South Tawton, Hatherleigh and Okehampton.

A substantial contribution to the cost of the specialist equipment for the Okehampton area schools multi-sensory room and garden was provided by the charity. Individual children have also received grants with help towards costs of mobility equipment, computers, toys and other apparatus.
