MORE than £2,800 has been raised by a father and son from Spreyton who cycled across the country for charity.

Dennis Edwards and his son Daniel began their journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats on July 15 and recently completed their mammoth challenge.

The pair rode unsupported for 14 days averaging 75-miles-per-day to cover the testing 1,000-mile route.

The duo smashed their initial fundraising target of £2,000 by raising £2,890, which they will donate to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The ride itself was especially tough for Dennis, who had an infection half way through which left him struggling to eat and drink properly for three days.

However, despite the difficulties they faced, both Dennis and Daniel managed to complete 100 miles on the last day to reach John O’Groats a day early.

After completing the challenge, Dennis said: ‘The weather and wind direction could have been better but we made it and enjoyed some beautiful sights and met some lovely people on the way!

‘We had a target of £2,000 pounds to raise for Children’s Hospice South West but have already reached £2,890 — hopefully we can make it £3,000.’

Dennis said he and Daniel hoped to raise as much money as possible for the amazing selfless work that the hospice’s do for children and their families.

CHSW is committed to making the most of short and precious lives. The care offered at each of the hospices is not only about medical and nursing care for sick children, but about enriching the lives of children and their families.
