THREE appliances from Chagford, Mortonhampstead and North Tawton were mobilised to a fire in a domestic garage, at Rushford Bridge, Chagford on Saturday (February, 20) at around 7.40pm.

The alarm was raised after a neighbour saw the garage on fire and was concerned that someone was inside.

However, shortly after arriving, crews were able to confirm that whilst there had been a fire, it was out on arrival and all persons were free and clear of the garage.

An ambulance was requested for a male suffering from smoke inhalation and while crews waited for the ambulance to attend, they administered first aid and oxygen therapy.

The incident was bought under control by 8.03pm. The fire, which was started accidentally by a discarded cigarette, said fire officers, involved the garage door and insulation only.

Crews carried out an inspection using a thermal imaging camera, before making the area safe and leaving duty of care with the owner.

The male casualty was left in the hands of paramedics.
