SHOWING its support for Armed Forces Day this Saturday (June 27) is the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

A floral tribute at RHS Garden Rosemoor, joins the three other RHS gardens in re-creating the Armed Forces Day Union flag in a special bed for visitors to see.

The design is based on the traditional colours of the Union Jack using a number of plants including Ajuga 'Chocolate Chip', Senecio serpens, Alternanthera lehmannii ' H-Bright Red', Helichrysum ambiguum 'Korma' and Sempervivum tectrorum 'Rubin'. The distinctive plants have been supplied by Kernock Park Plants based in Pillaton, Saltash.

Chris Bailes, RHS Garden Rosemoor curator, said: 'We look forward to welcoming visitors to the garden to see the flag and hope it will inspire them in their own planting design. It will be displayed until the end of July.'

In conjunction with gardening correspondents from The Sun newspaper, the RHS has also produced a floral design based on the flag that people can download from the RHS website and plant out in beds, containers or even on their windowsills.

A number of the plants chosen have military names representing the three armed forces. These include Tulipa praestans 'Fusilier', Lobelia 'Blue Wings' and Viola cornuta 'Lord Nelson'.
