TICKETS for the 2013 Devon Festival of Remembrance on Thursday, November 7 are now available.
Taking place at Exeter University's Great Hall, the end of hostilities in the Korean War in 1953 will be the theme of this year's festival. Often referred to as the Forgotten War, nearly 100,000 British servicemen, many of whom were national servicemen, took part in this three year war. More than 1,000 lost their lives, around 3,000 were wounded and just over 1,000 were taken prisoner.
Starting at 7pm, the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines of the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone will again provide the musical accompaniment for this event which has a well-established place on the Devon calendar.
Entertainment will also feature the Military Wives' Choir from Chivenor.
The guest speaker will be John Hollands, a well-known novelist and resident of Devon, who, as a young national service lieutenant, won the Military Cross during the Korean War.
To buy tickets to the event contact Royal British Legion branch secretary Peter Williams on 01837 840757.
