THE Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital held a coffee morning in the Charter Hall following its recent annual meeting where the officers were re-elected.
Martin Perry remains the chairman, with Mary Rattenbury as secretary and Ann Lane as treasurer.
In his annual report, the chairman described the problems facing the NHS and the local implications that have resulted in the closure of in-patient beds at Okehampton and elsewhere.
Nevertheless, he said, the Friends remained very active raising money for the hospital that is still busy, with over 40 clinics and numerous patients now being cared for in their own homes.
He added: ‘I have heard people say they thought the hospital was closed — well the fact is that is very far from the case! We have a dedicated team of community nurses working out of the hospital and a team of specialists attending daily to see patients as well as the new X-ray department together with the new chemotherapy facilities.
‘There is lots going on, and our services are still in great demand and we thank our helpers and friends for their continued support.’
