THE annual fun day of the Rotary Club of Hatherleigh and Hatherleigh Cricket Club took place on Sunday with perfect weather and lots of visitors making the day a smashing success.
Visitors to the cricket club got to enjoy a wide variety of stalls and sideshows, and take part in a number of contests, including the egg catching competition, tug-of-war and human table football.
There was also a dog show, and entertainment throughout the day from the All Star Majorettes, Bideford Pipe Band, the local fire and rescue service and many more.
Richard Tidball, youth chairman of the Rotary Club and club captain of the cricket club, was thrilled with how the day went: 'It was awfully good. It was a good crowd, with good weather.
'The entertainment was brilliant throughout the day, and impromptu things such as putting people in the stocks really worked out well. Everything came together brilliantly.
'We were well supported by local organisations, with teams from the football club, the cricket club, the market and the tar barrel committee joining in the competitions.'
Members of the Rotary Club and cricket club sold raffle tickets and took part in activities such as being put in the stocks to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and RNLI.
Richard said: 'Not only was the day very enjoyable, but we raised a great deal of money too. While we aren't certain just yet of what we have raised, we are anticipating having raised more than £3,500.'
'It was a great event, with people staying right until the end, having a great time.'
