TWO gardens in South Tawton will be opening in support of the RNLI on June 2.
Gardens at Glebe House and 2, Town Barton will be open from 11am to 5pm and refreshments will be available including cream teas. The historic Church House will have a sale of RNLI goods and souvenirs.
The gardens of Glebe House change from a tree-lined entrance, to open spaces providing a vista of moor and meadow. Although the levels drop through three terraces there are no limits to access.
Town Barton in contrast is small, but diverse. Developed as a sustainable forest garden with fruit and nut trees, it is under-planted with unusual soft fruit and spice bushes with ground cover of perennial vegetables, herbs, wild flowers and plants for basket-making and dyeing.
The garden is quite steep and therefore unsuitable for those in wheelchairs. Town Barton will also be open under the National Garden Scheme on June 9.
