DESPITE weather forcecasts of heavy rain and strong winds, the hardy folk of Throwleigh took part in the parish's beating of the bounds on August 27.

The event takes place once every seven years, and a group of around 100 people gathered at Payne's Bridge at 10am to see the cutting of the first boundary stone.

Sixty people completed the full walk, with 20 others taking a shorter route over Kennon Hill to Throwleigh Village Hall. Walkers were supplied with pasties and cakes to help them around the boundary route, and a welcoming party greeted the walkers at Forder Brook before heading back to the village hall for refreshments.

Organisers expressed thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success, especially those involved in providing and serving food all afternoon.
