TWO Queen Elizabeths will be celebrated at a special event in Hatherleigh on June 11.
The royal celebrations will mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday and the inauguration of the Hatherleigh Carnival Queen Elizabeth Hutton.
The carnival prince and princess will also be introduced to the public having been chosen prior to the event. Applications are currently being welcomed for a pair to take on the role for this year, the only stipulation being that one must be at primary school.
Celebrations will take place in the Square or in the Hatherleigh Community Centre if it’s wet. There will be a bring and share tea, music from Hatherleigh Silver Band and the school choir and ukelele group and there will a band ‘Anthem’ later in the evening.
There will also be a duck race with ‘live streaming’ and this year’s carnival president Jenny Phillips from Monkokehamption will be joining in the fun. Jenny is a familiar face on carnival day having been a judge for many years.
Everyone is invited to come in regal regalia and there will be a design your own crown competition with three classes from pre-school to age 11.
Anyone wishing to put their names forward for the prince and princess roles should contact carnival committee secretary Dawn Stevens on 01837 810265. The closing date for entries is tomorrow (Friday). The winning names will be picked from a hat.
