A WEST Devon hotel is this week celebrating, after scooping national honours for excellence.
The Arundell Arms Fishing School at Lifton has been recognised by The Field magazine as the best in the UK.
The Field in its May edition reviewed the best fishing schools in the UK — the Arundell Arms claimed the number one spot in its top ten list.
The Arundell Arms has been teaching fishing on its 20 miles of the River Tamar and its tributaries for more than 75 years.
It has two full time instructors — David Pilkington and Tim Smith — as well as other qualified instructors that it uses at peak season. It has taught tens of thousands of people of all ages to fish and introduced thousands to what has become a life-long hobby or passion. All equipment and modern tackle is provided on its inclusive one, two and four day courses.
Adam Fox-Edwards, Arundell Arms managing director, said he was 'thrilled' at the latest accolade.
He said: 'It is wonderful that even after so long being a fishing school, the team continue to teach at the highest standard.
'This is a real credit to David and Tim and reflects on their energy and passion for teaching as well as the beautiful rivers of the Tamar Valley with which we are blessed.
'It is a great pleasure for all of us to introduce newcomers to the sport.
The Arundell Arms fishing school welcomes students of all abilities from complete beginner to experienced angler.
The hotel's fishing is available to residents and non residents on a day ticket basis from £25 a day and all inclusive one day beginners introductory courses are from £195 a day.
