DETERMINED ten-year-old Ben Lovejoy has raised more than £1,600 for a charity close to his heart with a 50 mile bike ride. Ben rode along the back roads of Devon on July 19 from his home at Halwill Junction through Lewtrenchard, Lewdown, over Roadford to Ashwater, then to Clawton and along the back roads to Holsworthy, North Tamerton, back to Clawton and back through Halwill Town to Halwill Junction. The challenge took him just over six and a half hours to complete, and he rode triumphantly into the village gala day upon his return. Ben took on the challenge to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis UK on behalf of his grandmother Beat Boundy, who suffers with Crohn's disease, and his uncle Ian Boundy, who has ulcerative colitis. Ben's mother, Rachel Lovejoy, said: 'He rode the whole way with a huge smile on his face and a wave for people along the way. He really enjoyed the challenge, and so far his sponsorship has just gone over £1,600 which is amazing. 'I am really proud of him, it is an unbelievable achievement. 'It is all off his own back, he chose the charities, picked the route and decided it all.' Ben and his family expressed their thanks to everyone who supported the challenge, including those who pulled over in their cars to donate money to the challenge as Ben passed by.
