Crediton U15s 14

Okehampton U15s 14

THIS was a closely fought match of two distinct halves, with neither set of forwards taking charge on the sloping pitch.

Heard for Oke intercepted a pass from the fly half and ran staright through the middle of the pitch to score under the post. The try was converted by Ponsford.

Joint player of the match for the Okes Squire, who disrupted the half backs at scrums and line outs, and Crowhurst, tackled well on his opposite number out on the wing. Liversidge then broke blind off for Oke from the scrum with K Lee outside on the wing; Liversidge dummied and then fed to K Lee to go over in the corner. Bickley kicked an excellent touch line conversion.

Webb caught and competed well at line-outs, keeping his feet until support arrived.

The second half was all Crediton although Nash and Mortimore made their presence felt for Okes tackling Creditons big second row on the tap penalties.

THE long break due to the bad weather paid its toll on Tavistock team, who were dominated by the tough, forward running of the Liskeard Leopards.

The last time the teams met Tavistock won by a five points but this time poor tackling allowed the large Liskeard forwards to break through to score seven tries.

Liskeard ran in to early tries before Tavistock pressure held the score line for some considerable time and the West Devon side were rewarded when smart interpassing saw Flo Rodgers raced for the line to score. Two minutes later Lauren Dawe ran in another try to make it 15-10 at half time.

Several substitutions for Liskeard put fresh legs onto the pitch, which Tavistock could not match and Liskeard scored four tries through sheer muscle power, to walk away with the match.

Tavistock's strength lay in the set pieces, where all Tavistock ball was hooked by their player of the match Kayleigh Gatcom while Kim Upcott has developed into a tough, ball carrying tight head. The Tavistock tackler of the match was Bronwin Rundle who stopped several Liskeard break-outs.

In the three-quarters, Annabel Longden made some penetrating runs but on the narrow pitch there was little space for her to show her speed. Lilly Hilson is showing skill in defence and beginning to be part of the attack.

OKEHAMPTON returned after their seasonal break and set off at a furious pace against local rivals Crediton. Playing at North Tawton, Oke started brightly and with fast rucking and good handling sped into a 33-0 half time lead.

The first half tries coming from Leon Horne (3), Corey Holliday, and Greg Daniel. Successful conversions were added by Corey Holliday (2), Leon Horne and Jack Ogbourne.

Unfortunately Oke then rested on their laurels and did not put the required graft in when rucking and tackling. This resulted in Crediton scoring three second half tries.

Okehampton still had far too much all over the pitch though and created further scores from Joseph Stratton and Ollie Ardon with a conversion slotted by Kieran Coyle.

The second, abridged game saw Oke victorious by 21-7. Tries in this match went to Leon Horne, Ethan Hoggins and Greg Daniel. Conversions came from the boot of Corey Holliday, Leon Horne and Ethan Hoggins.

Ivybridge broke away and scored ten minutes in and dominated the early stages with a 26-0 lead at half time.

Tavistock rallied well in the second half when their team spirit kicked in, and came back with strong attacking skills. Three tries by Charlie Fethney, two converted by Matt Smith left them with a very commendable score against a tough Ivybridge squad.

AT North Tawton Rugby Club Okehampton U10s played a strong Crediton side, who took advantage with an early try; however this was levelled by a quick reply from the Okes' James McCulloch.

A patchy game saw a lot of loose ball with end to end rugby. Crediton's defence was good with strong, solid tackling and saw the first half finish with Oke a little way behind. Oke kept their heads up and came out fighting in the second half.

A great run from Will Risdon gave Nathan Tompkins (2) an opportunity to push through and score.

Great tackling and support came from Daniel Turney, Kai Middleton and Immy Ogborne, but captain Brad Simmons was player of the match for his determination, support and good work on the ground. The reliable Daichi Budiman refused to be left out and came scorching through to score Oke's fifth try. However Crediton continued to stay ahead although George Dickenson did catch the visitors napping when he saw ample space on their left wing and made for Oke's final try.

Joshua Burgoyne and Ethan Wilds linked well as half backs both pressurising Crediton's defence.

Joshua McCulloch, Ben Wharton, Matthew Denning (1) and Sonny Luxton for Okes all proved a handful up front with some powerful play. James Stevens, Soul Holiday, George Cox and Liam Daintree all acquitted themselves well around the pitch.
