PLANS to build a boarding kennels facility in Bridestowe have been turned down by West Devon Borough Council.
The submitted proposal was to build a boarding kennel facility at Luddon Farm for up to 20 dogs on what is currently agricultural land.
The application also included the provision of a gravel access track and concrete hard-standing for the provision of two parking spaces.
The borough council planning officer gave a recommendation for conditional approval, but councillors refused the application because, 'by reason of its proximity to residential property and therefore the potential for noise nuisance, would lead to the loss of residential amenity at Briar Mead, Spurham and Boasley View', and would therefore contravene local plan policies and the National Planning Policy Framework.
Their recommendation echoed the sentiments of Sourton Parish Council, which raised concerns that 'some Sourton parishioners, as well as neighbours in the adjacent parish, may suffer from noise created by up to 20 dogs in the kennels.'
