Chagford v Chudleigh
LAST Saturday was a bad day for Chagford as both first and second teams lost. The firsts were at home to Chudleigh and the visitors batting first had only scored 60-2 at the half way stage of 23 overs.
The orange squash seemed to galvanise Chudleigh into action as they advanced the score 218-7 by the end of the 46 allotted overs. The recovery was engineered by brothers Mark Halso (25) and Nick Halso (45) but it was the agressive knock of overseas seas and South African professional Botha batting at number six with a quick fire 59 not out which saw Chudleigh to this what seemed moderate total on a fine batting strip.
Del Lammonby for Chagford was the only bowler to shine with 4 for 55.
Gary Sizmur and Dale Chadwick made a spirited reply for the home side but at 31 Sizmur was out and Arnie Searle and Del Lammonby soon departed; when Chadwick was out for 31 it was 61 for 4.
Skipper Colin Mortimore batting with a runner and handicapped by a hamstring made 17, but it was left to Henry Gordon Lennox with 38 and Stuart Lord 19 to restore some respectability but Chagford were all out 157 to give Chudleigh a deserved victory by 61 runs. Martin bowled 2-39 but all rounder Botha picked up the last three wickets to finish with 3-30 in a match winning performance.
