The organiser of the popular Leafy Lanes walk has decided to call it a day after six years.
David Hocking has organised the Leafy Lanes walk since 2012 to raise money for the Pals of Plymouth Oncology, Outpatients and Chemotherapy (POOCH), a charity which he founded.
Since the event began, it has raised more than £150,000.
David called time on the charity event last week due to changes in his personal life and changes to policy at the Plymouth hospital with regards to charity donations.
For 29 years, David has completed a charity event each year for different charities, until he set up Leafy Lanes. The annual walk normally followed the route from Bridestowe to Sourton.
David said: ‘I have had lots of enquiries about this year’s event but due to a change in policy at Derriford Hospital and personal circumstances it’s becoming difficult to continue and it’s an appropriate time to call it quits after 29 years of fundraising.
‘Over the past 29 years I have met some incredible people and it has made every second of the fundraising worth it as without them, I wouldn’t have been able to meet them and share these memories.
‘A special mention to treasurer Pam Sizmur and the marshals — thanks to you all.’
