ANOTHER local primary school is working towards producing its own green energy.
Bridestowe Primary School has applied to West Devon Borough council for planning permission to site 32 ground-mounted solar panels on the disused former swimming pool hardstanding at the southern end of the school playing fields.
Mike Brady, head teacher at Bridestowe Primary, said: 'Over the past few years we have been working towards becoming greener as a school.
'We have stopped sending out paper newsletters, instead sending them by email. We recently had a switch-off fortnight, encouraging the children to think about their energy usage.
'The solar panels are the next step of us moving towards being a greener school.
'There will be a large education aspect for the children, and it will also enable us to save money, and has the potential to actually allow us to generate income.'
The panels, which are non-reflective, will be enclosed by wooden fencing and it is not thought there will be any detrimental impact on the local area.
Bridestowe Primary is the latest in a line of local schools moving towards creating their own energy to lower bills and help the environment.
