A 50-YEAR-old prisoner appeared in court on Monday charged with murdering a fellow inmate at Dartmoor Jail.
William Tolcher is accused of murdering 37-year-old Alexander Cusworth at the prison last Thursday afternoon (November 26).
Cusworth was serving an eight-year sentence for attacking his landlord with a broomstick in Teignmouth, Devon, and leaving him in a coma.
Cusworth suffered a single stab wound to his side allegedly inflicted by a 30cm kitchen knife in the category C jail’s kitchen. He was airlifted to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital where he died soon afterwards.
Tolcher was remanded in custody by Exeter magistrates. He did not enter a plea.
He will appear before a judge at Plymouth Crown Court on December 21 for a preliminary hearing.
