THE Royal British Legion of Devon will hold its 2009 Festival of Remembrance at the Great Hall, University of Exeter, on November 5.
Starting at 7.30pm, the annual tribute to Britain's armed forces will feature the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines from the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone.
Entertainment also includes performances by the Neath Male Voice Choir, pianist Richard Baker and mezzo-soprano Hollie-anne Bangham.
Peter Williams, spokesman of The Royal British Legion in Devon, said: 'This past year has witnessed the greatest loss of life of Britain's armed forces in a single campaign since the Falklands War.
'In addition to the fallen, hundreds of service personnel have been injured, some seriously, both physically and mentally.
'This year's theme will focus especially on the war in Afghanistan.
'However, there are thousands of ex-service personnel, both young and old, who continue to need the legion's help.
'There is, and will be for many years to come, a growing demand for the support of the Royal British Legion.
'Consequently, the Poppy Appeal is today more relevant than at any other time since the Korean War.
'The festival is an opportunity for the people of Devon to show their support for the members of the armed forces, past and present.'
The festival will also feature the traditional muster of Standards of Devon branches and service associations as well as representatives of the armed forces, cadet forces, youth groups, and emergency services.
