THE royalty for this year's Hatherleigh Carnival was announced at a special evening in the community centre recently.

At the Hatherleigh Carnival Royalty Evening, Jackie Entwistle was announced as the 2008 Queen.

Jackie has been involved with the carnival for many years, helping to produce many floats and costumes, and as a long standing committee member.

Jackie sold more than £500 of tickets this year and expressed thanks to everyone who supported her and the carnival by purchasing a ticket.

The 2008 Prince and Princess are William Bennett and Anna Moyse, both of whom have been involved with carnival since they were babies, although this is the first time William will be on a float.

William attends Hatherleigh Primary School and Anna attends Hatherleigh Pre-school.

Anna appeared on her first float as an attendant on her brother, Jack's float just two years ago.

This year's president will be Albert Palfrey.

Albert is a staunch carnival supporter and collects carnival memorabilia, with more than 40 years of Hatherleigh Carnival badges.

Albert said he was 'over the moon to be the 2008 president and wishes the carnival every success'.

The committee would like to wish everyone good luck and hopes they will all enjoy the day.

Hatherleigh Carnival is on Saturday, November 8.
