EXETER Leukaemia Fund is appealing to drivers in Okehampton with an old unwanted car to consider scrapping it in support of the charity.

Three years ago, ELF was one of the first charities to join forces with Giveacar, a non-profit social enterprise that encourages car owners to scrap or sell their old unwanted cars in a professional manner, giving the proceeds to the charity of their choice.

From small beginnings like ELF, Giveacar has grown from dealing with seven cars a month to 50 per week.

Recently they reached a milestone of £1-million donated to charities all over the UK. During this period ELF supporters have taken part in this scheme with the latest vehicle generating £66 for the charity.

ELF is not only appealing to car owners of Okehampton but also to owners of motorcycles, mobility scooters, ride-on lawnmowers and farm machinery  to make a lasting and positive difference to the charity and the environment by donating your old unwanted vehicle today.

You can contact the Giveacar team on 02077 364242, quoting Exeter Leukaemia Fund as your charity, or visit http://www.giveacar.co.uk">www.giveacar.co.uk and they will arrange a convenient time to send a tow truck, with no cost to the owner.

In addition to Giveacar's scrap scheme, they will also accept roadworthy cars which can be auctioned, and are likely to raise substantially more money for ELF.

Tom Chance, chief executive of Giveacar, said: 'I am delighted that ELF has been able to benefit as we have grown. Our service has a dual function, to help preserve the environment and to raise money for charities.

'The DVLA reports that two million cars are taken off the road, yet only one million cars are disposed of at an authorised treatment facility. At Giveacar, we only use authorised facilities that recycle a minimum of 85% of the weight of your vehicle.'

Dale Edwards, chief executive of ELF, said: 'This is a simple and effective scheme which is beneficial to the individual, the charity and the environment.

'Please help us, by donating your old scrap vehicle today. Donations generated will help to pay for the new ELF transport service, helping leukaemia sufferers in Devon and the South West.'
