DARTMOOR livestock protection officer Karla McKechnie this week issued advice for people witnessing attacks on sheep by dogs, following a particularly upsetting incident last weekend.
Karla said the situation involved a lamb being cornered by a Staffordshire bull terrier on Roborough Common, near Crapstone.
‘The farmer’s wife managed to get the dog away from the lamb, she followed the dog which was running back to its owner.
‘She told him he should keep the dog on a lead when around sheep and he absolutely fired off some appalling language to her, and actually threatened to stab her in the face,’ said Karla, who said the woman was so upset, she went home and called the police.
Karla said anyone witnessing dog attacks on sheep should obtain car registration numbers where possible, note time, date and area where the incident took place and call her immediately on 07873 587561.
