Devon seconds D West
Chagford seconds v Dartington and Totnes seconds
IN an exciting game Dartington and Totnes batting first made a slow start — losing their first wicket with 10 on the board.
Carter and Bligh, in a good partnership, took the score to 96 before Carter was dismissed by Steve Sizmur for 21. Sizmur then accounted for Bligh (54) Taylor (10) and Lowe (2).
Petherick had stood firm, and made a hard hitting half century before being well caught by Niven off Brijnath for 56 and the visitors finished on 205-8 in their allotted 46 overs.
In an erratic attack the bowling of Steve Sizmur was a feature with his accurate and controlled length and his figures of 4-44 in his 10 overs, were well deserved.
Chagford's replied slowly and were unfortunate that Chris Filor was run out for 7 with the score at 23, Ramsden (7) Niven (16) Holland (23) and Sizmur followed to leave Chagford at 77-5. However in an exhilating partnership skipper Dave Penberthy and Jules Baker embarked on a stand of 102 to take the score to 179-6, when Baker was well caught in the deep for 47.
Brijnath (9) and Pitts Tucker (1) failed in the quest for quick runs and Chagford reached 199-8. Penberthy batting intelligently with a well deserved 44 not out. The wickets were shared by Russing 2-24 in 13 overs, D Carter 2-64 and T Petherick 2-50
A disappointing feature of the game was the number of wides bowled by both sides and the 38 extras reflect this.
Chagford 10 points, Dartington and Totnes 15pts.
