THE NAME of an Okehampton-born soldier who died in Afghanistan is to be added to the town's war memorial and a service of dedication will take place on October 30.

Corporal Michael Pike, who was killed in action in 2011, spent the first five years of his life in Okehampton before moving to Scotland.

His extended family, including his mother and father, all live in the Okehampton area and have requested his name be added to the town's war memorial.

The service of dedication will take place at 2pm at All Saints Parish Church,?Okehampton.

The ceremony is being organised by the Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion in collaboration with the parish church and Okehampton Town Council.

Members of Mr Pike's family will be present, so too will be the High Sherrif of Devon and President of the Devon Royal British Legion.

Representatives of Michael's battalion, 4th Battalion (The Highlanders) The Royal Regiment of Scotland, including a piper, will also attend.
