THIS week saw a mixed set of results for Okehampton Squash Club, as the first team secured a convincing victory, but the second team just lost out in a tightly fought match. The first team beat Tiverton 2 at home, winning 4-1 delivering some valuable points towards thier push for promotion.
Sue Stanbury at five went 2-0 up she was unlucky just to miss out in the deciding game, eventually loosing 2-3. Phil Allin at four won 3-1, although never truly getting into his stride while Phil Kemsley at three comfortably won 3-0. At string two Arnie Searle was aslo far too strong for his opponent, winning 3-0. At one Clive Marais had a hard fought battle but did just enough to win 3-2. This 4-1 victory meant a 19-6 point haul for the team, placing them in the second promotion place in the division, with one match remaining. The promotion can be secured this week with victory over Exeter Golf and Country Club.
Oke two lost 2-3 against Dartington. Stuart Lord lost 1-3 at five but Simon McKinnel played well to win 3-1. Shane Vallance enjoyed a match that swung many ways before he went down 16-17 in the deciding game, to lose 2-3. Chris Law went down 0-3 while Ed Bewes at string one won the deciding point in the deciding game. However Dartington came away with a 9-18 victory.
