PUPILS at North Tawton Primary School were lucky enough to receive a visit from Paralympian David Hill last week. David, a Paralympic swimmer and triathlete, visited the school on May 8 as part of the Sports for Schools programme. During his career he has won more than 300 medals across a number of competitions. He visited the school to share his own inspirational story in an effort to get children interested in sport. Despite being born with no left forearm, by the age of three David was earning swimming badges and entered his first competition aged eight. His talent was soon spotted and he was offered a scholarship to Kelly College to combine his education and sporting commitments. After just three years, David qualified for the 2004 Paralympic Games and at 15 was the youngest athlete for Team GB. David's swimming career has spanned over ten years at the highest level, and he has competed at both European and World Championships, where he obtained numerous medals. In 2009 he won two bronze medals at the World Championships and another at the European Championships that year. David recently transitioned into Paralympic triathlon – Paratriathlon. He is now training to relive his Paralympic hopes in Rio 2016.
