• A community interest company which provides ‘purposeful and positive’ activities for people with mental and physical disabilities is launching an outreach service to help banish loneliness and offer practical support to others.

• Okehampton Medical Centre’s patient participation group (PPG) is putting out a call for more people to get involved in the group to help represent the views of patients.

• It was a proud day for all involved in the building of the long-awaited second primary school for Okehampton when it held an official opening ceremony on Wednesday last week.

• The Times’ Sarah Pitt pays a visit to the ‘Shedders’ at Okehampton Men in Sheds.

• A teacher from Okehampton College is set to have her ‘mop chopped’ for a mental health service that helps the young people of the town.

• Belstone Village Fair and Cosdon Hill Race took place at the weekend with lots of stalls, sideshows and music from the Bondleigh Barn Band.

• Pretty pooches and handsome hounds were the focus of attention at the recent dog show held in Simmons Park, oganised by Okeford Veterinary Centre.

• The Museum of Dartmoor Life has received a much-needed makeover thanks to staff from the Okehampton office of Simpkins Edwards, who took a day off from number crunching to help the local charity.

• Two Hatherleigh Primary School pupils have raised exactly £400 through a sponsored bike ride.

• The duck race at Fingle Bridge and the Teignton Fayre in Drewsteignton have together raised nearly £3,000 for good causes.
