THREE construction workers from Okehampton, are getting into 'peak condition' and training hard for the challenge of their lives, in aid of saving others.

Eddie Kingdom, 26, and a tree surgeon, Nick Watson, 23, a cabinet maker, and Philip Dunford, 36, and known as Fidge, a digger driver, are undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge.

After training since April the trio are endeavouring to hike three of the UK's biggest mountains — Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales — all in 24hours.

Eddie said: 'This is not just a test of our fitness or ability but a test of our stamina, friendship, determination and commitment to raise around £1,000 for the Devon Air Ambulance.'

The three hikers are asking people and businesses in West Devon to get behind them, either by pledging money to Devon Air Ambulance or sponsorship for diesel and food for their tough challenge.

So far they have attracted sponsorship from Sarah's Self Drive, Whitehouse Services, Kingdom tree surgery and landscaping, Milletts of Barnstaple, Mole Avon Town and Country stores and Touchwood bespoke cabinet makers, Clyst St Mary.

Eddie, Nick and Philip will be starting their challenge in Fort William at 5pm on August 16.
