REMEMBRANCE Sunday was marked in Okehampton by hundreds of local people who turned out to show their support and gratitude for the armed forces of past and present.

Peter Williams, branch secretary of the Okehampton Royal British Legion, said: 'This year's parade was one of the most well-attended in the 13 years I've been involved in Okehampton.

'The parade saw a magnificent turnout, including legion members and serving troops from the camp, as well as Cadets, Guides and Scouts, who all looked incredibly smart in their uniforms.'

Mr Williams also commented that the magnificent turnout for the parade was mirrored in the numbers who lined the streets: 'There was a really broad cross-section of the community turned out in the town. This just shows the public are still incredibly supportive and grateful for the work and sacrifices of our armed forces, both past and present, no matter your views on the conflict in Afghanistan.'
