CONGRATULATIONS to all the enterprising young people who took part in the Ten Tors challenge held on Dartmoor on Saturday week. Inadvertently, I think they helped to swell the number of people who came to our monthly Community Market held in the Parish Hall in Halwill Junction.
The market is organised by a small but willing bunch of volunteers and any profits made on the day are donated to local community groups. For instance, during the past year donations totalling £900 have been made to the following organisations: The Winsford Centre, the Halwill Playgroup, Primary School, Parent and Toddler Group, Brownies and Cubs.
The 'sellers' at the market are local people and include, craft suppliers, a local butcher, plants, books, as well as people having a 'clear out' and community organisation fund raisers. It is well worth a visit, with a welcoming atmosphere and a great cup of tea.
The market is held on the second Saturday each month, 10am to noon. June's market will be held on the 12th. Contacts below:
