WITH Okehampton’s squash first team not having a game, it was left to the seconds to pick up some much needed points away to Exeter Golf and Country Club.
The team put up a valiant effort with many close games, but they eventually went down to a heavy defeat. At string five, Tim Wilkins came up against an opponent who was used to the warmer playing courts, able to keep the ball alive, and despite Tom coming back strongly in the third game he went down 0-3.
At string four Dave Harwood enjoyed a good battle against his experienced opponent, with Dave pushing him all the way; but eventually going down 1-3. At string three the effects of a chest infection continued to inhibit Stuart Lord’s game, with Stuart going down 0-3.
At string two, Shane Vallance enjoyed a 3-0 victory in a competitive game. At string one, Shawn Jones couldn’t quite show the form of recent weeks against an opponent with class touches, Shawn also falling to a 1-3 defeat.
The team applied themselves well and just came up short in several games, which can make a big different in the final score — so a 5-17 loss. Next week the team hopes to return to winning ways at home versus Exeter University.
