Carlsberg South West Peninsula league division one East
Plymstock Utd 1
Okehampton Argyle 1
THIS was a disappointing result for Argyle against a team below them in the league and was certainly not one of their better performances.
The surface was a difficult one to play on with the ball taking some unusual bounces and Argyle were missing keeper Harry Geering and had to play midfielder Benn McIvaney in goal.
In the first half, Okehampton put some good passing moves together early on and only poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Plymstock's Paul Pethick kept the game all square. As the game progressed, the home side came more into it and showed they had some skilful players and McIvaney had to deal with a series of difficult corners. Nearing the interval, Argyle again started to trouble the home defence and took the lead two minutes before half-time when a ball came back to Ollie Crimmins, who scored from 30 yards out with a tremendous shot that beat Pethick and went in off the post.
Okehampton started the second half strongly and deserved to go two up. They claimed a penalty when they appealed that Crimmins was brought down from behind in the Plymstock area, but the referee waved play on. Luke Alden also was continually brought down as he ran at the home defence and tempers were becoming frayed.
In the 65th minute Plymstock fired a long free kick into the area. McIvaney called for the ball but did not get anywhere near it and Jamie Rae headed home the equaliser.
As Argyle tried to come back and retake the lead, their passing became really erratic and the ball was given away too often. To add to their woe the referee waved away two clear penalty appeals for Okehampton and nothing was to come of Argyle's pressure and the game ended in a disappointing draw.
