SIXTEEN bowlers from Okehampton Simmons Bowls Club have just returned from a short stay at Warner’s Hotel, Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.
Twenty one teams from around the country took part in the bowls tournament, four from Okehampton. After the initial round robin rounds two Okehampton teams went forward to the quarter finals - one of which, Mike and Viv Kirkland, Hilary Hudson and Tony Caplan, reached the final.
A friendly game ensued with the opposition starting well, being 2-5 up. Okehampton then scored three to make the scores equalise. Then it was Okehampton all the way with the opposition only scoring one more point due to some superb bowling by skip Mike Kirkland. Final score was 13-6.
So for the second year running an Okehampton team won the trophies and have he chance to go through to the Champion of Champions’ final.
The bowlers are now looking forward to the outdoor season in April when anyone who would like to try the game of bowls will be most welcome at this friendly club at Simmons Park.
