MEMBERS of Okehampton Simmons Bowling Club, along with wives and friends, met in the club house for the presentation of the 2016 competition trophies earlier this month.
Before the start of the awarding of the cups, club captain Roger Pedrick welcomed Steve Croswell from the prostate cancer charity to the club. Steve had been invited to receive a cheque for £800 raised from the club’s charity day, organised by Jean Middleton, backed up by donations from other sources. The club was thanked for the cheque and a brief talk on the work of the charity was given.
The competition winners received their trophies and prizes from the club president, Brian Vernon. The winners are as follows: Ladies’ handicap, K Mansell; ladies’ two wood, J Middleton; ladies’ pairs, M Luxton and S Hearne; ladies’ triples, V Kirkland J Hutchings and K Mansell, Jack Vanstone Cham-pionship, S Hearne; mixed pairs, J Griffiths and A Mathias; Len Jordan triples, S Hearne, E Sanders and J Mansell; non-winners’ cup, T Hunt; over 60’s cup, K Mansell; A J Newcombe cup, A Mathias; Hutchings handicap, A Mathias; Tilley two wood, A Mathias; Edgecombe pairs, A Mathias and D Critchley; Simmons champion, B Vernon; Ben Pook cup, V Kirkland; most improved lady (voted for by the ladies), C Ditchburn.
Mr Pedrick thanked all who had worked hard on the green and the gardens throughout the season and gave a special thanks to the ladies who provided tea and refreshments at all the matches and functions during the year. The captain then closed by hoping that everyone had a good winter and would be looking forward to the 2017 season.
