Okehampton ladies 4
Kingsbridge and Salcombe ladies 1
KINGSBRIDGE and Salcombe played well controlled hockey that kept Okehampton fighting every step of the way.
Oke scored first when Jo Moppett accelerated away from the visitors' defence and finished with a beautifully angled shot around the goalkeeper.
The visitors responded with razor sharp attack down the centre and despite the efforts of Carol Taylor and Brieze Read they piled all the way into the goal.
Okehampton's route of attack was up their left wing. Abby Colton and Tara Davidson did some superb work, alternating short sharp passes, long balls and some nifty dribbling to keep feeding the ball up. Jane Jones and Alex Collins kept the ball moving across the centre and blocking attacks. Joey Drake took the short corners and a good ball to Jo Moppett at the top of the circle led to a cool finish to restore the lead. Oke's Louise Weller took any opportunity to get the ball up and into the circle and it was her determination that led to an error by the Kingsbridge defence, which was pounced on by Moppett who scored from the ensuing short corner.
Kingsbridge were now all out in attack and Okehampton found it hard to escape from the back left corner. Close marking and determination kept the visitors at bay.
In goal Viv Weatherington played with confidence and made some excellent saves and kick outs. Still Kingsbridge poured in but still they could not score. Brieze Read, player of the match, at centre back kept pushing balls off the sideline.
However slick passing from the Oke ladies was rounded off by Moppett who whirled around several players to complete the scoring.
