Devon C West
Bridestowe v Ashburton
BRIDESTOWE moved to the top of C West with a convincing win over Ashburton.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bridestowe openers James Ewen (53) and Gary Sizmur (46) raced to 40 inside four overs.
The hundred opening stand was brought up in the 18th over, and it looked as though the visitors would be chasing a huge score. The introduction of Kris Conabeer (3-14) slowed the run rate and he removed both openers in an accurate spell.
Wickets then tumbled as Bridestowe fell from 113-0 to 173 all out, only Phil Hatton (11) and Chris Lavis (24) making double figures. George Marshall (3-39) picked up three wickets and Matt Churchill (2-45) and Lloyd White (2-23) both bagged a brace.
The Ashburton chase started disastrously as they lost White in the first over to Lavis (3-23). Either side of a short rain break, Ashburton slumped to 37-7, Sizmur (3-4) doing most of the damage. Marshall (10 not out) and James Rush (21) got the visitors up to 77 all out, but they were never really in the chase.
Bridestowe’s Tom Boother (1-14), Alex Jopling (1-26), Ryan Dennis (0-8) and Matt Dennis (1-2) all bowled tight spells, giving little away to the batsmen.
n Bridestowe won by 69 runs that saw a rain revised target of 158 from 41 overs.
