THE Whitchurch seconds welcomed division favourites Lustleigh and asked them to bat first. James Fulner, probably playing several divisions below his standard, tucked in to the home side’s bowling, hitting the ball to all parts.
Lustleigh rattled along at nine an over from the off and looked set to post an imposing total. Promising colt Tyler Hunt led the bowling with 3 for 39 for Whitchurch, but Fulner just continued on his merry way. He completed his century and looked set to add many more. Steve Wright was the best of the rest with 33.
Emma Jackman took 2 for 52 including the eventual dismissal of Fulner for 184.
Lustleigh posted 355-7 from 40 overs.
The seconds were never going to get close to that score, but battled well to accrue points. Marias (42) and Tyler Hunt (39) led the way adding 80 for the fourth wicket.
Jon Wright, also looking a class apart led the bowling with 4-18. Whitchurch kept fighting though. Emma Jackman batting well for 20.
Northey and Prout saw out the last over as Whitchurch closed on 176-9 and thereby denying Lustleigh maximum points.
Lustliegh won by 179 runs.
