WHITCHURCH seconds travelled to Denbury to face strugglers Ipplepen thirds.

Visiting skipper Wallace called correctly and asked his hosts to bat first.

The dangerous Crocker hit a few early boundaries as the Whitchurch openers searched for their line and length. Crocker then pushed at one too many and lofted the ball to mid on for Webber to take a well judged running catch. Thereafter, Ipplepen found run scoring very difficult as Whitchurch’s bowlers maintained great discipline. This was best shown by the conceding of just eight extras in the innings.

Downham completed his spell with 2 for 14. The second wicket was a stunning one handed snare from Credicott at second slip. Tamblin and Hodge gave few run scoring opportunities in the middle overs and although wickets were not coming, the home side were well behind setting a challenging total.

The wickets were shared around with great support in the field, particularly from Megicks who took three catches.

Whitchurch were unable to dismiss Ipplepen but did restrict them to 89-7 off 45 overs.

Credicott set about the run chase with great haste and had made 20 before being bowled by Jonty Peach.

Twin brother Charlie Peach was the pick of the Ipplepen bowlers, causing all batsmen issues and returning 2 for 21.

Whitchurch needed a cool head and looked to the dependable batting of Bob Powell. He deserved to see his side home but was dismissed for 23 with just two required. Downham duly obliged striking the winning runs off the very next ball.

Whitchurch won by five wickets to maintain their promotion push.
